Right now, they calling it a show car. IF there is enough interest, then the car will be ready by Spring 2006 (roughly the same time the Rolls Royce Convertible comes out!)

Why is VW so obsessed with weird two-tone paint schemes these days?

It's actually a very old technique used to accentuate some body lines, and/or to fool the eye into reducing the visible body mass of the vehicle (Making it appear leaner than it actually is). If done right (read: not a straight line dividing the car in upper and lower halfs) it can be quite appealing.

I had to say that really looks good with old-fashioned flying B badge on the front of Arnage Drophead which i didn't seen that badge for soo long on present Bentley cars. I hope this badge will return in some bentley cars in the future.

Pedestrian safety in Europe - I doubt the badge would make a return in the UK - there is no 'flying cat' over here afterall.

This car is good looking, and I specially like the new nose of the Arnage, but this based on a kind of dated car... I had to agree with some posts above that it would be much better having a Continental GT vert, but it´s good to look at this beautiful Arnage!

The magnificent four-seater convertible show car stimulated such interest among Bentley aficionados, both in the USA and Europe, that the decision was immediately taken to continue its extensive development programme in time for delivery of the first cars in spring 2006.
The Arnage Drophead Coup is a true luxury four-seater convertible for the 21st century: a unique blend of classic Bentley design and craftsmanship married to a high-technology platform sourced from the 2005 Model Year Arnage. As such, it is the perfect natural successor to the Bentley Azure, whose eight-year lifespan cemented the marques status as the prime provider of four-seater convertibles to this sector of the market.
"We knew that the Drophead Coup would create quite a stir," says Bentley chairman Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen, "because it is the most sensationally beautiful convertible with strikingly contemporary lines and an unashamed luxurious interior. Yet even we were surprised by how much demand there has been for us to put it into production. Our customers obviously remembered how good our last convertible was and naturally their expectations for this car were even higher. Im glad to say they havent been disappointed."
The Arnage Drophead Coup will be the fourth new model to go on sale in just four years at Bentley, reflecting the incredible success of the brand since becoming part
of the Volkswagen Group in 1998. Since 2002, Bentley has launched the all-new Continental GT Coup, the 2005 Model Year Arnage, the four-door Continental Flying Spur and now the Arnage Drophead Coup.
"This convertible will be the flagship of our range," says Adrian Hallmark, member of the board, sales and marketing. "While we are excited to be able to offer our cars to a wider market thanks to our Continental series, no-one should doubt that Bentley will continue to be known the world over as the creator of the worlds most exclusive cars. The Arnage Drophead Coup is a perfect example of that intent."
The twin-turbocharged V8 engine, double-wishbone suspension and extremely rigid body structure of the Arnage provide a state-of-the-art basis for the Drophead Coup. It is powered by a 450bhp (336kW) version of the Arnages 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged, intercooled, V8 engine and produces 875Nm (645lb ft) of torque. The complex folding roof on the convertible is operated hydraulically at the touch of a switch and the impressive three-layer canvas roof is elegantly stowed beneath the rear parcel shelf in under 30 seconds.
Further details, including full technical specification, market availability and pricing, will be released nearer the Arnage Drophead Coups on-sale date.

Source: Bentley Media

Bentley has confirmed it is to call its upcoming Arnage-based convertible the Azure. It displayed the luxury four-seater at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance in California at the weekend. The car was first seen, as a concept called Arnage Drophead Coupe, at the Los Angeles Motor Show early this year.
Bentley spokesman Adrian Hallmark said: "We have been inundated with demand for a new Azure virtually from the moment the original model ceased production. The exclusivity, style, luxury and performance of the new Bentley convertible flagship evokes the Riviera lifestyle like no other, fully justifying the revival of the Azure name."
More details, including final production specification and pricing, will be released at a later date, though if you have to ask about these trifles, you probably can't afford it anyway.
Source: 4CAR

Today, at the IAA Motor Show, Bentley Motors reveals the production version of the new Azure. The luxurious four-seater Azure, which goes on sale in Spring 2006, is the latest in a portfolio of wonderfully desirable 'dropheads' stretching back many decades and reaffirms Bentley's reputation as creator of the world's most elegant convertibles.
Bentley first hinted that a new Azure might be in the pipeline when it unveiled the glamorous Arnage Drophead Coupe show car at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January 2005. The show car stimulated such interest among Bentley aficionados that the decision was quickly taken to continue its extensive development programme in time for delivery of the first customer cars in Spring 2006. Last month, Bentley announced that the production version of the show car would carry the evocative Azure name. Like its iconic predecessor, which was in production from 1995 to 2002, the new Azure becomes the flagship of the Bentley model range.
The design of the new Azure is, first and foremost, unmistakeably Bentley. It shares its face with the current Arnage range and its platform ensures it seats four adults in supreme comfort. But it is also unmistakeably unique. The entire cabin and rear section of the car are newly designed, with a stunning bespoke interior; the objective being to create an opulent and inviting seating area that reflects its status as a car that is at home in Palm Springs or the Riviera. The complex folding roof on the convertible is operated hydraulically at the touch of a switch: the impressive, three-layer fabric assembly being elegantly stowed beneath the hide-trimmed tonneau in under 30 seconds.
The twin-turbocharged V8 engine, double-wishbone suspension and extremely rigid body structure of the Arnage provide a state-of-the-art basis for the new Azure. It is powered by a 450bhp (336Kw) version of the Arnage's 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged intercooled V8 engine and produces 875Nm (645lb ft) of torque.
The specification of the production version of the Azure is virtually unchanged from the original L.A. show car. The principle change is the introduction of high technology, lightweight, carbon fibre, under-floor cross braces that contribute to the exceptional levels of body stiffness, benefiting refinement, ride and handling. In addition, the chrome trimmed bumpers and sills of the show car are now painted in body colour with a delicate chrome trim that runs the length of the car, enhancing the flowing lines of the Azure body.
"The production-specification Bentley Azure graces our stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show just nine months after we revealed our concept car in Los Angeles," says Bentley Motors chairman, Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen. "We enjoy an excellent dialogue with our customers and the new Azure epitomises how responsive Bentley is to satisfying their aspirations. Bentley develops and produces cars that people desire and that are faithful to our heritage. The new Azure is the perfect example of this philosophy."
Details of market availability and pricing will be released nearer the Azure's on-sale date.
