Can someone explain to me why they'd reveal a PERFORMANCE-oriented vehicle on a TV show targeted toward soccer moms???

nice...though for an OHV it sure does make its peak power in fairly high rpm's....but I guess thats not such a bad thing knowing OHV's have plenty of oomph in their lower ranges meaning this thing will have a great power band....

Looks great! But two small improvement would, IMO, make it better. First, a small roof spoiler and change those weird-o headlights.
But 0-60 UNDER 5 sec? I won't believe it till I see some tests.

So far this is the only Grand Cherokee version I like, and a small spoiler and different headlights would make it look even better. Then again, different headlights would look better on all GC versions.
But man, look how clean this looks; the sides, front, everything. Why couldn't they make the Comander look as clean, instead of all those gashes and lines all over the place. It makes the Comander look like an amateur designed it compared to this GC.

The performance figures are nice but...
1) They went completely street with this - my 5.9L Grand Cherokee hauls a** AND I can take it off-road, tow, etc. The front bumper aero treatment on this WK is soooo low and chrome rims? They should have gone back to the 5.9L and did a nice understated dress-up so it was more of a sleeper (then again all the SRT models are boy racer overdesigned)
2) I would like to see the towing package - I know how it is described but I wonder how it would look?
3) The front end is hideous. I disliked the normal variant b/c of the lights and the addition of the huge lower bumper work makes it look like it was done at a cheap body kit shop.

They were so close to making a great performing Jeep but they neglected the off-road angle and I'm sorry but the WK is still hideous.
BTW, how come D-C lists the WK SRT-8 as under 5 seconds and the Charger SRT-8 as 5.0 seconds? Is the WK faster? HA

I can't decide if I should love this (looks better than the Regular GC, has nice performance figures) Or hate it (looks terrible anyway, it is excesively overpowered - What the hell do you need 6.1 liters for? What do you need 5.9 Liters for even - And I can't get used to the stupid frog face. I used to Love the second gen GC).
Also I can't help thinking that this will be used mainly by people who will never use it for anything else than driving to the local supermarket and they know it, just they want to be seen as sporty people even if they are lazy bastards... just image. (I know some people will apreciate its performance, but most people wouldn't notice if they put a 2 liter engine under the hood instead, as long as they aren't told that that is the case.)

Chevy recently put the SS badge on what seems to be every car and truck of theirs (including the Malibu Maxx) I hope DCX does not do the same and put the SRT badge on a bunch a cars that dont deserve a SRT badge. I dont think theres a point for a SRT version of this Jeep.

im gonna agree with charger completly. the problem with chevy's ss badge is that in most cases while that ss version has more power, they still aren't really as powerful or sporty as they they should be. dc is putting the srt badge on a lot of stuff, but at least everything they so is idiotically powerful for its class (save maybe the crossfire)

how is this wasting resources? the hemi was already around and the other changes are pretty minor. the only extra cost that producing this will bring is marketting, and i think it will probably sell well enough on its own to not even need much of that.

Yes, it is a diesel version.
Called the Grand Cherokee CRD , it is powered by one of the new Mercedes-Benz diesel engines.
Its a 3.0 liter V-6 with 218hp.

Well, i dont know...
But if fuel prices will go up any further it would be a clever choice to offer that engine, too.
Americans should like it cause it has as much torque as the 5.7 Hemi V-8.

A lineup today of STRICTLY off-road only jeeps will not sell. I'm fine with jeep's current montra of its vehicles having the best off-road abilities in their respective classes. Everyone is freaking out a little too much about this SRT badge. I don't remember any negative reactions when the Overland version of the previous generation came out. Granted it was only 325 hp or so, but still it was the same basic performance idea. If the only buyers of jeep's were serious hard-core offroaders, jeep would not sell enough to stay in business.
