Following their credo that the best is just good enough for BRABUS the engineers and designers at BRABUS (Brabus-Allee, D-46240 Bottrop, phone + 49 / (0) 2041 / 777-0, fax + 49 / (0) 2041 / 777 111, Internet http://www.brabus.com) have developed an exclusive sport program for the two-seater. It lets owners of the top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models further individualize their vehicles.
BRABUS equips the SLR with a special self-locking differential. Its 40 percent locking rate further optimizes the super sports car's traction and thus further improves acceleration.
In BRABUS Racing version with performance-improving fuel cooling, custom camshafts and an open racing exhausts system maximum power output of the supercharged V8 engine increases to 660 hp / 486 kW at 6,500 rpm. The exhaust system is not certified for use on public roads. Thus equipped the SLR storms to 100 km/h from rest in just 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of up to 340 km/h.
BRABUS further offers professional modifications to body, suspension and interior that further amplify the sports talents of the SLR.
For further improved directional stability at high speeds the BRABUS designers developed a new spoiler for the front air dam. The exposed-carbon aerodynamic-enhancement part reduces lift on the front axle and adds another shot of racing looks. The rear diffuser is also made from exposed carbon.
The multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock VI 20-inch light-alloy wheels with six double spokes command immediate attention. The fully polished wheels in size 9.5Jx20 in front and in size 11.5Jx20 on the rear axle fill out the available space below the wheel arches perfectly.
BRABUS chose high-performance tires in sizes 255/30 ZR 20 and 305/25 ZR 20 as the optimal solution. The conversion to the BRABUS 20-inch tire/wheel combination gives the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren even more dynamic handling prowess.
BRABUS also adds new sporty and exclusive highlights in the interior. The company-own upholstery shop created a BRABUS interior from an exclusive black and red combination of leather and Alcantara, perfectly crafted down to the last detail. The waffle-design stitching of the SLR leather floor is especially elaborate and it alone uses 7,800 meters of the finest thread.
For easier entering and exiting BRABUS manufactured a custom BRABUS sport steering wheel with an ergonomically shaped rim that is flat on the bottom. For manual shifting of the SLR's automatic transmission the BRABUS steering wheel features buttons integrated into the spokes.
The BRABUS interior designers developed precise-fit applications for dashboard, center console and door panels, all made from exposed carbon. They extend the BRABUS exterior carbon look into the interior.

Okay, now... honestly... at this level, are you really able to distinguish the return on your investment if you pump money into mods? It's an SLR, for god's sake... we're you ever gonna wring it out, anyway?! There's a point where a tenth or so off of 0-60 and a miniscule improvement in what is already great traction becomes simply absurd. And I can only imagine how much money you have to dish out for this stuff.

agreed. also, aren't these the same guys that tune SMART's - to me you have to draw the line somewhere. MB doesn't seem good at doing that these days. (Now, where'd I leave the keys to my A65 AMG...)

This is pretty funny, considering Mercedes specifically told Tuners to NOT modify the SLR... It would be "too dangerous" whatever the hell that means. haha.
Brabus clearly didnt care to listen..
Another thing to think about, the SLR isnt just some 911 Turbo that you put different body kits on and modify the engine.. The SLR with its $460,000 price tag, was ENGINEERED TO THE MAX, no corner was cut over at McLaren... whatever Brabus does will just end up messing the car, and potentially cause it to be dangerous at higher speeds... specifically that lower front lip... if McLaren thought the car needed that, they would have put it on.
I do feel there is a limit to the "customizing/tuner" market... like the original McLaren F1.. no one is trying to get an extra 100hp out of that car.. and no one is trying to put on a dumb aftermarket body kit.. that car is 100% Perfect/Complete... Same goes with this SLR.. no Engineering corner was overlooked.

Does this have any purpose whatsoever? How much money do you have to have to get you 300 some thousand dollar car tuned? Of course we can look at it this way, at least the fast and the furious style "tuners" can't get their hands on one to work on.

Why don't we wait for a test and then make a decision as to whether or not this car should have been modified, is it worth the additional money and if it is safe. Until then I'll withhold my views.

I dunno what to think of this car. On one corner, it frustrates me that MB-McLaren obviously didn't engineer this car to it's potential, as Brabus ultimately saw some tuning potential and got results. And then again, it also is stupid to modify such an expensive car and really makes no sense.

If I had more money than I knew what to do with, and there was a car I could buy that pretty much nobody else had, this would probably be it.

How many of these does Brabus expect to sell? Because there are not so many SLRs around....
This car is plain ridiculous. What will be next.....a tuned Veyron?

like i said before, this is the same tuner that tunes SMART's and A classes - maybe they think it could be a halo thing - like look we got more performance out of an SLR which is already insane... image what we can do for your MB minivan!

http://www.motorauthority.com/images/Mercedes/SLR/Brabus/Roadster/01/b08aa035.jpg

The new Audi Q7 Coastline (http://www.motorauthority.com/news/concept-cars/audi%e2%80%99s-maritime-inspired-q7-coastline-concept/) won’t be the only maritime-inspired vehicle at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. German tuner Brabus has followed the boating theme by dressing the Mercedes-McLaren SLR Roadster with a new pearl-white paint job along with an aerodynamics update, engine tuning and custom-tailored 20in wheel and tire package.

The list of modifications includes a new front spoiler attached to the stock bumper, which reduces lift on the front axle and gives the car a more aggressive look. Optimized in a wind tunnel, the new spoiler is made from exposed carbon fiber and is both light and robust. The rear apron, meanwhile, is upgraded with a Brabus diffuser also made from exposed carbon fiber. Completing the look is a set of 20in ‘Platinum Edition’ three-piece alloy wheels wrapped in either Pirelli or Yokohama. Thanks to the new design, which features a forged aluminum rim and a billet aluminum center, the bigger 20in wheels are lighter than the 19in turbine-design factory-spec wheels.
Under the bonnet is the familiar 5.5L supercharged V8 but with the addition of and a fuel-cooling system. Power output increases by 24hp (18kW) to 650hp (478kW) at 6,500rpm. The tuner also offers a special clutch-type limited-slip differential with a locking rate of 40 percent for the SLR. This optimizes traction and improves acceleration times for the 0-100km/h (62mph), which now takes just 3.6 seconds. Top speed is an unlimited 337km/h (211mph).
Inside, the car gets red leather and black Alcantara trim, a new sports steering wheel with perforated leather and small buttons used for switching gears. The price of the new package including the car starts at €699,000.
