This is the new AUDI RS4 !!!

Source: http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de

New dimensions in driving dynamics combined with innovative ideas and concepts and, in addition, exciting lines and a level of equipment living up to even the highest luxury performance standards: The new Audi RS 4 combines the latest high-performance motoring qualities offered by quattro GmbH in a thoroughbred sports saloon with supreme everyday driving qualities in the premium segment. Indeed, the new RS 4 is the top-of-the-range model in the A4 series, a development all-new from the ground up.
Numerous technical achievements many of which hail from motorsport give the new Audi RS 4 its unique class and character. These features include the high engine speed concept now being introduced for the first time in a production Audi, innovative FSI technology, as well as the latest generation of quattro drive with asymmetric/dynamic distribution of torque. Developing a maximum output of 420 bhp, the V8 revs up to a speed of 8250 rpm. With its displacement of 4163 cc, this outstanding engine exceeds the magical barrier of 100 bhp per litre truly outstanding in a production saloon. Maximum torque of 430 Nm comes at 5500 rpm in this very compact engine, with 90 per cent of the engines torque consistently available between 2250 and 7600 rpm. The result is excellent muscle and pulling force at all times, enabling the driver whenever he or she wishes to drive in truly relaxed style without frequent gear changes.
Audi has chosen its trendsetting and groundbreaking FSI technology for the RS 4 saloon, direct gasoline injection ensuring even more effective combustion of the fuel/air mixture and, as a result, an even better power yield. This is matched by the highly responsive development of power, the RS 4 accelerating to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and reaching 200 km/h in 16.6 seconds. Top speed is cut off electron-ically at 250 km/h.
Audis FSI technology has already proven its qualities impressively in Audis four-time Le Mans winner, the Audi R8.
A further essential point in the brief given to Audis development engineers was to optimise the cars power-to-weight ratio, avoiding every superfluous gram on the Audi RS 4. Accordingly, virtually every component was checked and cross-checked for minimum weight. The front wheel arches and the engine compartment lid are therefore made of aluminium, just like most components on the chassis and suspension. The specially designed RS bucket seats, in turn, are not only very light, but also offer extremely good body support in every situation.
The result is a power-to-weight ratio of just 3.93 kilos per bhp a figure truly reminiscent of a thoroughbred sports car, which would not even have been conceiv-able just a few years ago in a midrange saloon.
New generation of quattro driveDesign
The RS 4 features racing technology in civilian clothes. While many of its features look similar to the new Audi A4, the RS 4 is far more than just a fast derivative of Audis highly successful midrange saloon. Quite simply because the car is an almost entirely brand-new development tailored to the highest performance requirements.
The single-frame radiator grille, the rear section with the distinctly horizontal orientation of the cars lines, and the side surfaces with the shoulder line plastically filling in the cars contours, all prove that the RS 4 is a member of the A4 family. However, the radiator grille in diamond look, the additional air intake scoops in the front section, as well as the wheels developed specifically for the RS 4, clearly set the car aside from a normal Audi A4.
The newly designed rear air dam encompassing two extra-large tailpipes as well as the discreet but highly effective spoiler integrated in the luggage compartment lid and the rear side panels all bear clear testimony to the saloons dynamic driving potential also in terms of their looks. Compared with the Audi A4, the entire body of the car has been lowered by 30 millimetres. And at the same time the development engineers at quattro GmbH have widened the cars track both front and rear. At the end of the day, however, all these modifications to the body of the car are significant not only in terms of design, but also above all in terms of function.
Inside, the RS 4 combines the straightforward function of a sports car with the luxurious ambience so typical of all Audi models. The dominating materials are leather, aluminium, and carbon. But at the same time the RS 4 comes with all the additional qualities so typical of a genuine sports car.
This superiority becomes clear immediately when you take your seats in the car: The RS bucket seats with their high side sections provide excellent support. A further feature of these bucket seats is the control button on each seat for inflating the side support elements adjusting perfectly to the drivers anatomy. The sports steering wheel tapering down at the bottom and the engine starter button on the centre console, in turn, are also clearly reminiscent of motorsport, just like the aluminium pedals.
You start the engine of the Audi RS 4 by pressing the starter button housed conveniently in the centre console right next to the driver. Pressing the sports button in the steering wheel, in turn, the driver is able to modify the gas pedal control map, giving the engine even sharper and more direct response.
Features and Equipment
Driving the Audi RS 4 means driving a sports car without making any concessions. Right from the start, therefore, the RS 4 comes with virtually all the features already boasted by the Audi A4. Apart from a wide range of advanced safety components, this also means high-comfort automatic air conditioning, central locking with remote control, and electric window lifts at the front. Further features of the RS 4 include the acoustic parking system at the front and rear, the Concert radio system, as well as sports suspension with variable damper control (DRC). Furthermore, the purchaser of an Audi RS 4 can also opt for a particularly high standard of comfort amenities such as Audis navigation system plus or dynamic adaptive light headlights literally guiding the driver round bends in the road.

Source: http://www.vwvortex.com

I love the steering wheel, and the rims, very cool, the info sounds amazing but this re styling they did just completely spoiled the A4 for me. The front just looks like something went wrong and it's melting or something. I don't think even these bumpers can make a difference

I like the interior a lot - especially the seats - with the exemplary build quality we come to expect from Audi. However, the grille is still not favourable - I've always assumed BMW ///M can do it better but this looks like their best effort yet.

any think 4.8s to 100km/h actually sounds a bit slow given the insane amount of power.
im in agreement with the majority, this thing looks great. i love the a4 facelift, and this just makes it look even better, especially that shade of blue.

I'm guessing the new Quattro system has improved a lot.
Interestingly, this engine revs up to 8,250 rpm just like the V10 in the M5 or M6.
"3.93kg/1hp" translates into 1650kg or 3630lbs per 420hp. That is a heavy car.
Seller Automotive
02-22-2005, 02:34 PM
can those weight numbers be right?
How on earth is this thing heavier than the S4? its got alluminum all over the place, sure its wider, but the engine hasnt grown, most parts havent grown.
I gotta go check the S4's weight. I cant imagine the RS4 weighs more.

DAMN, S4 weighs 3825 pounds (sedan, manual)
Nice, so the RS4 "doing the math" is 195 pounds lighter than the S4.. with the addition of 80hp.
Lets not forget that many magazines got a 5.0 0-60 in the S4 (eventhough audi said 5.6 and many magazines didnt even test the car, they just stated 5.6 as the factory did).
So 195 pounds less, 80hp more.. we should Easily see a 4.0 0-60 in the RS4. About 1 second faster than the S4 to 60.

Thanks for the nice video... what a sound!
195 pounds less than the S4 is really good, but I don't think it can do 0-60 in 4.0, maybe around 4.4 seconds. it 100% is coming to the USA... a HUGE reason why this one is being offered in Sedan.
My local dealer rep told me first US Deliveries will be in August.
My buddy is getting a 2005.5 S4, and its delivery date is the last week of March(first one from that dealer)... if I remember correctly the new S4 was shown just about 4 months ago, perhaps a tad longer.. Anyways, about a 5 month delay from introduction to first deliveries.. August is 5-6 months away, so hopefully Audi will keep things on schedule. I'm sure they will.

Also, this car will have a 6.5" LCD Navigation screen option.. the 2005.5 A4's now finally come with them, and so does the 2005.5 S4... again, local Audi Rep said the RS4 will not be any different.. That screen in the middle is an informations screen, gas mileage, doors "ajar", stuff like that. So to clear it up, 2005.5 A4's and S4's have an optional 6.5" LCD Navigation system, theres no reason to suspect the RS4 will be any different.

any hi-res pics (1024x768 or 1600x1200)?
it looks great, i just wonder how that front bumper piece will look without the european plate covering it up. it woulda been nice if they made that a body color bumper to blend in and look more like the last a4 variant. at least it's not as snout nosed as the a6. this rs4 makes the regular a4 look horrible. dang this is a nice car - any word on pricing? an s4 is like 50k right?

Top Secret
02-23-2005, 06:54 AM
If an RS6 Avant can sell well, I think the RS4 will sell well. A fair number of people are willing to buy C55 AMG's; why not RS4's?

knicks125
02-23-2005, 07:11 AM
people with money to throw around (waste) generally lives in the lap of luxury, when you are in that status, you generally like to show off with something luxury and also with class...a c55 amg is more classy than the rs4, and i know more people drive the c55 to a fancy party than those driving a RS4. I am just not sure which type of people would actually buy this, because as I said before people with money want class and luxury, people who actually like and enjoy this can't afford it.

Top Secret
02-23-2005, 07:17 AM
That's just stereotypical. So any rich person buys a car for luxury and not performance? That's so generalized it's not funny. So a Carrera GT owner buys his Porsche for luxury, not performance. Think about it.

What IS the price point going to be about? S4's are already very pricey when you are still buying the bones of just an A4.
These better engineered, more powerful, more aesthetic editions like the RS, S, M, AMG, etc. just make me dislike the regular versions. It's like they hold back features and design so that they can offer an overpriced sportier version that I'd actually like to buy. While others are content with buying the normal version after being enticed to the dealer b/c of the special version, it just makes me not want to buy the version I can actually afford. i.e. who wants a regular X5 when you can get the 4.8? who wants a 5 series when there is a MUCH better looking M5? Unfortunately I'm not willing to spend that much on a car at this point in my life. I'll have to live with my Jeep 5.9L :)

BTW, JBlair, I sent you an IM (which I assume is this forum's PM feature). Thanks!

It allows for power splits other than 50/50 front to rear under normal driving. In this case, 40% goes to the front and 60% to the rear. Of course, up to 70% of power can be delivered to any one wheel, should the others not find traction.
http://www.torsen.com/products/T-3.htm
As for the 0-100kph times, keep in mind that although AWD allows you to come closer to that ideal launch time under a wider variety of conditions than a 2wd system, there is extra driveline inertia and driveline friction due to the AWD system.

I dunno. This reminds me of seeing a hot person from behind in a dance club. They really move, have a great body, lots of admirers. But then they turn around and you are all like, oh my god, what an ugly face! This Audi has a big nose, droopy eyes, and a flabby chin. Of course, if you were born with the settle gene, it could be a happy relationship.

You cross-shop an RS4 with a Range Rover? They cater for completely differnet people. And that's not an offical grey colour - the image was just changed into black and white.

1) i'm not saying rangie's and an rs4 (one's an suv the other is a performance sedan) are comparable, i'm just saying that with 70k in my pocket, i'd go for the range rover not an A4
2) i took the blue pic and gray-scaled it in 2 sec's - i know it's not an official pic but grey is grey and audi will probably offer it in black/dolphin grey/etc. de-ambering the corners also improves the aesthetic. the plastic gutter grills are a little overdone as well - jag/range have better mesh grill designs.
going back and looking at the last rs6/rs4 really make their designs look dated though so i'm sure we will all get used to these trapezoidal-grilled audi's
MHO of course

an RS4 Cabriolet -I don't believe it! Man that is just infinitely cool!!! Awesome!
But I'd still chose the sedan cuz I'd drive it really fast and I just feel safer in a car with a roof and some pillars, and it's probablly the lightest version as well.

The U.S. would undoubtedly be the biggest market for the convertible version... it would almost make more sense to bring that here than the sedan! The wagon, on the other hand, would probably not do so hot...

Yeah, I think they'd be nuts to pass on the convertible. Less so on the Avant but I seem to see a lot of those S4 Avants in these parts. Still, if I was the type to spend an extra $25k or so on a car (that's a lot of vacations and plasma screens, dig?), that RS4 Avant would be the absolute E ticket!

Upon its launch in June, the RS 4 will have a base price of $66,000, not including a $720 destination and $2,100 gas-guzzler charge. The RS 4 is a high-performance sport sedan with a long list of premium equipment to go along with its exceptional performance.
A 4.2-liter direct injection V8 FSI engine produces an astounding 420 hp at 7800 rpm, and 317 ft.-lbs. of torque at 6000 rpm. This high-revving V8, in conjunction with a standard six-speed manual transmission and quattro all-wheel drive with a rear-based dynamic asymmetrical torque split, allows the RS 4 to run from 0-60 mph in a mere 4.8 seconds.
Standard 19-inch alloy wheels with 255/35 performance tires, a sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC), and a 1.5-inch wider track than S4 ensure that the RS 4 has high levels of grip for every situation. Massive brake rotors measuring 14.4-inch in front with 8 piston calipers, and 12.8-inch one piston type in the rear, easily bring the RS 4 to a halt from any speed.
Standard equipment on the RS 4 includes such luxury items as power glass sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, Silk Nappa leather sport seats with power adjustments for the front passengers, heated front seats (front and rear standard in Canada), multicolor information display with integrated lap timer, rear parktronic, carbon fiber interior trim, and adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights.
There will be one option package for the 2007 RS 4. The $4,700 Premium Package includes DVD-based Navigation and a six-disc CD changer, Homelink, auto dimming interior and exterior mirrors and compass, drivers side seat and mirror memory, rain sensor for wipers, upgraded Bose sound system with Sirius satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, heated rear seats, power rear and manual side sun shades. Rear side air bags are a stand alone option for $350.
Should a prospective RS 4 owner wish to personalize their RS 4, Audi will also offer the ability to replace the carbon fiber interior trim with brushed aluminum trim.
The 2007 RS 4 will arrive in showrooms in June.
