i like this better than the 5 door, looks like a mini mondeo and IMO i think it looks great

Looks great, much better than the previous one, but if I were Volvo i would be afraid it looks to close to the S40. Not that it will steal it's sales, but it will definetely not help the image. But than again VW has been doing the same thing to Audi for years and no-one cares, it seems...

This is way better than the US version. Ford is making a big mistake not bringing the updated Focus to the US. Am I right that they are not bringing it here, at least not yet?

These pics have been out since the Focus hatch was unveiled.

this and the milan share a similar styling direction, so i have an idea why not bring this here as a mercury (bring it only in well equipped trims) and market it as more than a focus and less than an s40, bu tnot as sporty as a 3. they could put it up with higherend 3's, which offer leather navi, and xenon's. just a thought

I liked it last September and like even more now...
This looks really good and I hope that this is the next Argentinean Focus and not the US one... I dont care about the platform just the skin!

I'll admit I like this much more than the new Cobalt, which is a great car BTW. Too bad Ford is stubborn about not offering this in the U.S.

Ford needs this car in the U.S. Simple fact. The current Focus has been in the U.S. since 1999 and it's showing its age, even with a facelift and upgraded interior.
I like the styling; much more mature than Ford's kooky "New Edge" styling. That styling was just about as nuts as the shift-on-the-fly 4WD Tempo they offered in the U.S. in the early 80s.

exactly my first thought...looks almost like a carbon copy of the previous (current) jetta - not the one that's going to be released soon
but it looks nice...it's too bad it's not coming to the US...

looks goodie for an hatchback based sedan... I like it.
Definetly the best looking car in its class in Europe...

you might well just get a Jetta...don't get me wrong...it looks good, but it's essentially a jetta (previous gen), and for europe only. By the time you get it here to the states, you could probably buy two jettas, plus the depreciation is probably lower on the jetta

That is the funniest joke I've ever heard It might be overpriced but on almost every single level it is better than the focus, quality foremost. Unlike the Jetta, the Focus has failed me on many occasions.

I mean why the heck would anyone buy a jetta? You pay almost double the money of focus and you also get the worst dynamics in class. The base 2.0 is unnessarily ancient too, at 110 hp and rough and loud.

Can someone explain to me how the new focus is rip-off of old Bora/Jetta??
I cant see it. not even design-wise. the price is better and even the handling and mechanics are better , and they were in the old Focus too.
quality is other thing, but still I wouldnt pay the price of jetta to get so dull and bland car, even if it would be the best quality. And I have heard about bad-quality VWs too

Exactly -Peter-
The Golf V is not quite the quality of the Golf 1V. Althoug better in everyother way.
the Jetta is a Golf based sedan? If so do they call it a Bora in Australia?

Top Secret

Maybe the Jetta name was taken in the Australian market when the original came out? An example of that is with the Toyota Kluger - the Highlander name was used by Hyundai and refused to give it away, so they named it after the JDM version.

If I had to choose between the two I would take the Jetta, it goes faster than a Focus (my friends have tested). But, that's just my personal opinion so you guys certaintly can have your own views if you'd like.
BTW, If I was shopping in the compact car class, I would certaintly not get either, I would probably look for something like the Mazda 3 (not the sp23 version - that's like 20k), or Hyundai Elantra GT, both offers value and fun factor
BTW, both of my current cars can put the the Jetta and the Focus in the dust, although it would take longer aganist the Jetta than the Focus

Other than a few minor details which Ford touched up/changed (which they should've...it's already 2005), tell me if these two cars don't share similar cues:
Ford Focus

2004 VW Jetta

very unoriginal

The new Focus is more a copy of the Mondeo than anything else.

Only a little bit like the Mondeo.

Calm down. So what if they copy. Fiat copied Citreon on the C8. They just changed the lights on the Ulysse

Their all built in the same factory and are nothing more than rebadging jobs. Oh, and btw, the Seat Toledo and Altea are also the same car, only the Toledo has a bigger hatch.
Anyway, this looks like nothing special to me, the new Focus is very disappointing styling wise imo, and this is just another boring car. Mind you, the last 4 door Focus was no beauty either.
Ford's designs have become very VW-like lately, that is true, but i can't really see the Focus - Bora resemblance either.

Well both the Focus and the Bora have 4 wheels, 5 seats, have an engine, and yeah, dats about it. Oh, they both have 4 doors as well....
