The BLS sedan with front wheel drive comes 2006 on the market and is the smallest model of the US luxury mark. It be based despite stronger engines and equipment with high order technically on the Saab 9-3 and is built presumably also in the Swedish Trollhaettan.
Which is presented in Geneva, is still another study, but the series car (premiere on the IAA in September) differs only by the wheel Design (19 tariff aluminum wheels) from the Showcar. The introduction on the market is to start in February 2006, at prices starting from approximately 28,000 to 29,000 euro - thus exact between Saab 9-3 and the larger Cadillac CTS (C-segment Touring Sedan).
BLS stands for b-segment Luxury Sedan. This model, which will give it only as four-door notchback sedan, competes with German place deer such as AUDI A4, BMW 3er and Mercedes C-class, but naturally also with noblen middle class import cars of Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Lexus and Volvo.
Running time only four and one-half years
The BLS is 4.68 meters long, 1.76 meters wide and 1.44 meters high. It is the last European new publication on basis of the current Epsilon platform of GM (OPEL Vectra, Saab 9-3), afterwards only two US derivatives - under it also the Saturn aura come. Due to its late erscheinungstermins and starting from 2007 the transition for second Epsilon generation (among other things with optional all-wheel drive), already lining up with the Vectra Modellwechsel, the model cycle of the Cadillac BLS straight will amount to times four one and a half years. For autumn 2010 a successor is already expected, whom there is to then be also as combination and Coupé Cabrio.
But the BLS, for which GM invests 250 million dollar, already gives a Vorgeschmack to Bob Lutz in the interior according to development boss on the next Cadillac generation: with soft leather equipment, high-quality surfaces, Echtholz echtholz-Intarsien, system of sound of Bose and DVD navigation with 6,5-Zoll-Touchscreen-Farbmonitor. Outwardly the BLS is designt in so-called kind & Science style of the Cadillac models XLR, CTS, STS and SRX.
It is to offer compared with other GM cars on this platform above all a better noise and suspension comfort. Starting from autumn 2006 besides optionally automatic absorber control is offered.
First Cadillac with diesel engine
The BLS will be up to the appearance of the V6 and V8-Turbodiesel (autumn 2007) for the rear wheel-driven models the first Cadillac with diesel engine. Is used the 1,9-Liter-Vierzylinder well-known from the Fiat GM Jointventure, which is to carry approximately 180 out in the BLS and with particle filter will be equipped. As basis Benziner a two-litre four-cylinder turbo engine with approximately 200 HP serves, over it ranks a 2,8-Liter-V6-Biturbo with presumably 275 HP. All engines have thus clearly more achievement than comparable Saab 9-3-Motorisierungen.
As power transmission switching and automatic transmissions with five or six courses are available depending upon motorizing and equipment.
Annually Cadillac wants to set European-wide 10,000 units off from the BLS. Thus 50 per cent of all Cadillac sales planned starting from 2007 in Europe to the new entrance sedan would be allotted.

oops...sorry, didnt see the other threads in the concpet cars section...though I believe this is a production ready car...I think the article states the actual production car with vary only by rims and other little things I think so I feel this is ready to hit the streets, or atleast thats what I got from the article...sort of...I mean, GM invested 250 million into the production of this so I doubt it is just going to be a concept...It mentions production starting in MY 2006 in the article too I believe...
