Man, that thing looks awsome... love the tail lights, I wounder how they light up

Nick
02-10-2005, 11:45 AM
most likely LED's...though I know there are these lights out there that when they aren't lit up, they are clear, and when they light up they show color...can't remember what they are called though...

Do you mean like electroluminescent?

Not bad, side profile looks great, the front picture is ok, but not the best angle, should look much better from another angle. Rear, I like the twin exhausts, but the lights are not growing on me, yet. Will make more judgements with more pics.

Wow, most probably the first Saab design I like. The rear is excellent, but the front is not as aggressive as the rear.

I like it. I would've liked to see a more aggressive front end, but the side profile looks great. I like the taillights, they add some excitement to the rear end. I'd like to see this in person...

Its pretty good looking but the D pillar area looks a bit odd to me, Im not sure what it is. Its a pretty big blind spot

i like the back end, if only because its something different from the norm.
but in that pic, the front just looks so aged. dunno why, but it looks a really tired old design from the front. maybe its the lower bumper - the front fog lights look crap and boring, as do the grey plasticky stuff seperating the foglights.

It looks great, but 250HP from a twin-turbo V6 is very disappointing.

The engine is only 2.8 - extracting much more than that would mean a high pressure turbo likely to come with lag issues. I also wouldn't be surprised if a higher output version appears in a Viggen version in the not too distant future.
I like the lights - I'm quite surprised they made it to production so big and with the clear lenses. They remind me of the concept, and give the 9-3 back some of its lost quirkiness.

Oh my gosh, that rear ROCKS!!! Congrats to saab for not falling to the saabaru-whatever-but-boring-hole, looks unique, elegant, premium and very very Saab. The resonance here in the forum is obviously quite good so I hope that can be said for the public, too. Would be good for Saab ... hope so, really, because I just love Saab. Well done, guys!

WOW! What a kewl car! I thought GM killed this car, but im glad they didnt. The back is great, another platic fantastic job (Naga)! Those tail lamps looks like they are fully intergrated into the car, unlike most wagons. The fron is very plain tho, but side profile is what i expected. Overall very nice. Saab's best yet! (i mean since GM took over)

well, I think the 9-2x is smaller, and it is a hatch...this is a wagon which will most likely compete with the 3 series wagon I would assume...

I think they should engineer a hatchback before its too late.. but for all you Americans (no disrespect intended), dont like hatchbacks so the car was made a saloon..
Anyway if there is a hatch vectra why no hatch Saab...
I like the estate it ads a bit if character to the car but a clamshell bonnet should have been a must at launch. a la 9-5
The tail lights should light up just like the facelifted FX 35/45. The bulbs are clear or "Silver" looking but illuminate Red for the brakes and amber for the turn indicators.

for that kind of money i think i'd rather have a V50 T5 awd, regardless of which car is faster. i like the tail of this saab, mostly because it reminds me of a volvo 855, but the front end seems like it was taken from the mid-late 90's saab 900. for some reason i find the total package on this less attractive than i do the sedan, which i am not terribly fond of to begin with.

i like those taillamps much better than the frosted ones, although the frostede ones are cool, they will end up being like the altezza taillights which were quite cool when they first came out on a production car (then again i think iwas 9 so cool had a dfferent meaning then) and now they look tacky andd ated. i dotn know if the frosted will look tacky five years or so down teh road, but i think they will look quite dated.

The current model is not even on the same level as the beforemetioned vehicles; the top-of-the-line 2.8L V6 (190hp) in the GLX trim is a bit on the low side. However, the new engine in the new Passat sedan (3.6L V6 with output of 280hp) can join the group for comparisons. Too bad the wagon won't be offered initially with the sedan verison.

zoo_b
08-08-2005, 08:24 PM
Well don't you think they sorely need an AWD car to be competitive in the luxury market? Actually when you load up the options and also considering the low residuals on Saabs, the Audi and BMWs are better deals, not to mention that they throw in the maintenance for the first few years. I love Saabs, but just can't get around the "deal". No I was refering to the 2006 Passat.

knicks125
08-09-2005, 05:27 PM
Yes I agree with you about the AWD as an option would be more attractive, but given the lower prices vs. competition, and on the price factor alone would generate a few more sales. Also, considering this class is still near luxury, or premium, which means price is still a factor during selection.
I am sure given enough consumer needs, Saab would add AWD as an option during its next refresh/facelift on this.
As for the Passat, a lot of people still view it as an entry level, along with the Camry, Accord, Sonata, Altima, and others; although I believe the new Passat might change that.
