Fusion looks heaps better than this thing. The rear lamps are hideous.... reminds me of a Seat Leon, or something. <p><IMG SRC="http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/images/hofbar32.jpg" BORDER="0">

i really like the front, and the taillights aren't THAT bad...still, it looks like the interior will be exactly the same as the fusion only with different trim, they could have at least differentiated it a little.

Info from autonews.com<p>The 2006 Milan is the next step in Mercury's makeover attempt. <p>The Milan gives Mercury a fresher look and will appeal to younger customers than Mercury has tapped in recent years, Lincoln Mercury President Darryl Hazel said. <p>The average age of a Mercury buyer was 61 at the end of the 2004 model year. Products such as the Milan and the 2005 Mariner sport wagon should tap into people in their 30s and 40s, officials said. <p>"We had a while where we were anchored in yesterday, but I think we are moving forward," Hazel said. "It's been a while since we had a product like this, and I think it will take us a while to get established with it." <p>Mercury's last vehicle of this size was the Mystique, discontinued in 2000. It sold 62,609 vehicles at its peak in 1995. The slightly larger Mercury Sable will be dropped this spring after years of declining sales. <p>Hazel is expecting the Milan's full-year volume to be around 40,000 initially. But the Milan eventually could become Mercury's volume leader, he said. <p>The Milan will be the most affordable vehicle in Lincoln Mercury showrooms. Mercury officials aren't confirming a price, but the Milan is likely to be less than $20,000 when it goes on sale this fall. <p>The Milan will be offered with all-wheel-drive in the 2007 model year. That also could boost demand. Awd is growing in popularity, and take rates have been unexpectedly high on the 2005 Mercury Montego sedan. <p>The Milan is one of a trio of Mazda6-derived sedans arriving this year. It will be assembled along with the Ford Fusion and Lincoln Zephyr at Ford's Hermosillo, Mexico, assembly plant beginning in August. <p>The Milan will come with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine or an optional 3.0-liter V-6. Transmission choices are a five-speed manual, five-speed automatic or six-speed automatic. <p>The Milan shares 90 percent of its parts by value with the Fusion. Ford Motor executives say future Mercury vehicles will gain more styling distinction from Ford brand counterparts. <p>In 2008, Ford Motor will introduce gasoline-electric hybrid versions of both the Mercury Milan and the Ford Fusion. <br>

Not bad, front is ok, lights are good, grill needs some work, and the rear screams toledo. I am not sure what Ford was thinking with those rear lights, a single clear strip would be fine, but no they had to go for a huge chunk.<BR><BR>

This has got to be one of the latest Mercury's that i like the MOST! The front looks very elegant with its grille and headlamps and i like that it has projector beams. Fron the rear 3/4 view it looks bigger than the Fusion and therear it is very well done its not great but its not bad neither i think it has LED's on the taillamps overall i like this car much!!!

I thought the rear lights ruined the car at first, but they've grown on me pretty quickly. They look unique, not just a re-interpretation of all the generic tail lamps we see all over the road (talking about the US, bc yeah, they look like Seat lamps).<p>I just wish they would've made it sportier, more aggressive. Three variations on this platform and not one of them looks like a sport sedan. Yeah, the Fusion goes after the Camrys and Accords of the world, and the Zephyr needs to have that subdued elegance, but at least this one could've had some edge to it. Montego for the traditionalists, Milan for something sportier. Looks good, very classy, but a missed opportunity for something better, IMO.

Small detail, but my 2004 Mazda6s (same platform) has a fuel filler door release... the Mercury version appears to have a finger slot which means no fuel filler door release on the inside. I thought Mercury was supposed to have higher content than Mazda. That is a cheap touch. I like the security and flush appearance of an interior fuel filler door release lever.<p>Plus... my Mazda6s has a V6 and a 5 speed manual... something that Ford/Mercury/Lincoln decided not to offer.<p>Go figure.

AHHH THATS UGLY...once again i reinforce my dislike for this car. I knew this car would be a disappointment when i saw the sketch... cuz wah...the sketches never turn out the way the actual car looks like! And Mercury has just proven my theory. Now between this one and Ford's Fusion..id much prefer the fusion!

The whole "M" thing is part of Ford's new name scheme. If you notice, all recent Ford cars have had "F" names except the Mustang (Focus, Fusion, Five Hundred, Freestyle, Freestar) and all SUVs have "E" names (Explorer, Expedition, Excursion, Escape). I'm actually surprised that the Lincoln Zephyr didn't get an "L" name.

I think Mercury should bring back the Meteor name, they used it for a small sedan 30/40 years ago.

thats correct. Ford doesnt have the amount of development capital that GM has so it cant quite afofrd to radically differentiatie its brands until it makes more profit capital.<br>

... will ford put the new 3.5 in the fusion/milan/zephyr only and the v8 from yamaha in the 500/freestyle?

I belive there will be a bigger V6 in store for the 500 and freestyle, so probably the 3.5 ther, and yes, there will be a V8 for them. dunno if it's the Yamaha though

Ford has not said anything about putting the 3.5 in the Fusion or Milan... only the Zephyr. And the Ford "Hurricane" V8 was canceled, so unless they're going to use an exsisting V8 its not gonna happen.
