Wow, that's quite a jump from the 120i. I suppose that means a 125i will be forthcoming as well.

I love it - I'm eagerly awaiting whatever comes over here.

I'm excited for the 3 door version. It should be competition for the Opel Astra OPC. Just wait for the M version. It's going to be sweet.

The wiper is pretty sick, not in the gangster sense.

And I wouldn't say that the Astra is really in that different of a class. Don't forget it's being developed by Lotus and RWD is not really as bad as everyone thinks it is. Sure, if you push the car past the limit, it will understeer but a RWD car isn't going to be amazing past the limit either, esecially when we're talking about hatches, not supercars. If you want to get really particular, the 1 series is it's own class, it's the only one with RWD.

Why on earth would they throw the 3.0L in there if it weren't for the U.S. market?
Does this mean we should expect this car any time soon?

Seems like the point of the 1er is small and sensible... seems a little excessive for a European or Asian market car.

I'm sure any country which sold out on hot hatches such as an R32 or an Astra Turbo would find a market for a 130i. And trust me, there are a lot of countries like that.

Any ideas on what kind of money this will cost in the UK?

This car has finally made me appreciate the 1 series styling. Even if you compare this car with the astra OPC. the Bimmer would lead by a considerable margin. first off the 1 is better balanced and would be lighter considering the new R6 engine is lighter than astra's turbo engine. we'll jst have to wait for the rave reviews this car would recieve from the press.

There is no way that they will have same class of customers, impossible.
As to performance side, obviosuly 130 has to be nicer, but it will cost twice as much.
What 1 series will compare to is A3 and Alfa 147, which are also considered premium cars at least, with proper suspensions and price...

All along we knew that BMW was going to have a V6 in 1-series, especially for NA market. But also lets not forget that they haven't decided on which body style to bring to US.

All I can say is BMW is dragging it wait too long to bring the 1 here to the US, I know I know, I've read all of the factors why they haven't done it yet, but now would be a good time, two years ago would have been a good time, a year from now would be a good time...just bring it here...it would be good for the market

The hatch isn't coming to the US at all according to BMW. So that leaves the coupe and possibly the convertible, which apparently won't be out until late 2007 / early '08.
In related news, AutoBild reports that the 3 door hatch will come out in early 2007 along with a facelift for the 5 door.

That lap-time seems very competant indeed. Is it just me who feels that it should've been reserved for the 3 door model though?
