I don't know if there is embargo on this, but these pics have been on Auto Week's fourms since late Dec.

Source: Auto Week
I sort of liked the concept, but Ford didn't keep the same dimensions on the production version. Embargo ends tonight at midnight, so it shouldn't be a problem to have it started already. There are bunches more pics; Ascariss, myself, and a few others have them, but he will likely post them all later tonight when the embargo officially ends.

what is an embargo?
what is the difference between this and the concept?
can someone do a few side by sides?

JBlair

An embargo is the date that automakers give out upon which pics can be shown. The official embargo for these is midnight tonight, and they were not supposed to be shown publicly before then. This is actually hugely different than the concept, but I don't have time now to get the concept pics up. Go to AutoWeek's coverage of detroit, and find the coverage of the Zephyr in the Detroit production section; they have concept and real pics there.

The concept has much better looking taillights, but it looks good overall. I love how they kept the concept steering wheel.

There are better pics out there already, (check blue oval news). These ones are sterile and don't really do the design any justice whatsoever.

It looks wonderful! The best thing is that Lincoln stuck strongly to the concept's styling, although the concept rear's much better, with it's bigger tail lights and the higher rear bumper. Another highlight is that the interior looks basically the same as te concept which is a great relief!

I like the basic proportions, which have been kept very close to the concepts, and also the interior, which is very restrained and stylish, not to mention high quality for an American car, but the production model's rear lights just spoil the overall look. They're far too big, and rob the rear end of the car of the restrained elegance that the rest of the design exhibits.

If someone has a quality sized rear end of the production Zephyr, can you photoshop the rear tailights to mimik as what we saw in the concept?
My thoughts are if you are going to extend the taillights towards the inside of the car, you need to keep them skinny (short) in height wise (see 97-02 Honda Prelude, 2003+ Acura TSX). In retrospect, if you want to keep them in the opposite extreme, you keep them long, but narrow (see 2002 Cadillac CTS, 2005 STS).

A huge disappointment. Lincoln aims for Acura, circa 1999. Even that interior theme (taken from Aviator) is looking dated. Another J Mays letdown.

Taillights just kill this car! They are way too big, way to Toyota like and I hate that uncreative typical slide up on the side which makes it look like G6, Camry, E-Class, ES. Very very poor. Front end is not aggressive enough, but its decent.

hmmm... the front looks like the old, 1980s Cadillac DeVille... doesn't it? (especialy the headlights and the grill)
why did they make it look so dated? the front looks old (an old Caddy), the side looks like a Camry, and the side looks like a Korean/Japanese car (even the MB B-Class!)

Isn't this always the case though? It gets kind of old. Everyone liked the concept so I don't see why they changed it so much. The interior is almost the same as the concept but the exterior is where they lost track. Don't get me wrong, it is a really nice car but some of the styling could have been better. In some pics it looks like a current gen Avalon. I like that it has dual exhaust but the two dinky tips look out of place. The interior on this throws the CTS out of the water though! ( I don't know if they are competitors or not.)

I got to see the original concept up-close and let me say that it was truly impressive. Sadly the production version seems to suffer from too much dumbing down in the styling, and too many compromises (both inside and out) to the engineers (or is it the parts bin). The end reult reminds me of the outgoing Toyota Avalon - which even Toyota realized needed replacing. Sorry Ford, but once again you've shortchanged Mercury.

This car definately looks better in the live autoshow pics. The Ford pics make it look cheap for some reason. If they're smart they'll offer this with the Duratec35 AWD and 6spd manual... that would be pretty tight, a nice option for the people who want performance. In all i wish it looked more like the concept but I still think it looks better than the Caddy CTS. I'm actually thinking about recommending it to my Mom to replace her C-class.

Everything between the A and C pillars screams Cadillac CTS to me... would these two be competing?
Overall I think the concept was well-executed, but bland. The production version... just bland. The interior is great, but outside the car just lost the grace of the concept... the rear end is just too big-looking, and those enormous rear lights (a far cry from the slim ones from the concept version) don't help.

randy59

I would say that yes, overall, the CTS and the Zephyr would be competitors. Based on these photos however, there is no competition. The CTS seems to know exactly what it is and its styling is completely consistent with the rest of the Cadillac family theme. Whether or not it is based on another GM platform, I honestly couldn't tell you because the execution of the concept is so well done (in my opinion). This Lincoln seems to have no idea of what it is supposed to be. The execution of this concept is just simply inexcusable. I am so disappointed.
(This will be my last rant about this car.)
