I couldnt see a topic for the RRS.. so here one is.
Autocar have driven the RRS and are reporting it this week in their mag. Anyone in England seen this? How do they rate it?
http://www.autocarmagazine.co....12944

Had a quick breeze through it, and they drove it alongside the new supercharged facelift rangie...
They got a very nice pic of them both next to each other. Although similar, its clear to see how the sport is more lower and meaner.
I think the review was pretty positive.. especially about the handling.

I still don't get it!? Is the Range Rover Sport a replacement to the current Range rover OR simply a new model line?

New model line.. designed more for wagon-utes like X5 FX SRX Kubang etc.. RR will fight the off road section..
Basically instead of VW/Porsche/Audi's 1 car fight all sector strategy.. they split it in both.. which I think is a better idea because it can cut weight.

Range Sport weighs about 2.4 Tonnes...
although this is veryy heavy, the car has some excellent handling dynamics meaning the weight wont show that much..

How do these prices compare to DIII and RR?

BC

I tried to do a conversion into a ball park US price last night. Used the price of a US HSE V8 LR3 versus the price of a UK HSE V8 Discovery as a converter, then applied it to the price given for the UK RRS HSE V8. Doing that, I got about a little over $47,000 for the RRS SE; a little over $53,000 for the RRS HSE and just under $60,000 for the Supercharged RRS. It seems low, but if you look at UK pricing, you'll notice that they sell the Discovery HSE for more than the SE RRS. So, it may make sense that the RRS SE will start under the $49,995 of the LR3 HSE in America.

The unofficial word hasn't changed much in the US. The lowest priced RRS trim in the US will probably be at least $55K -- more is also a possibility.
The "official" statement of being priced between LR3 and Range Rover leaves it wide open for adjustment before launch.

Vatican
01-22-2005, 10:10 AM
Depends if they only import the HSE. An HSE RRS upgrade over the HSE LR3 with the same engine and options is worth $5k not $10k for the nicer name. So far most ofmy friends who looked the photos of the RRS thought it was the "New RANGE ROVER" ... but when they go to the dealer and look at them, it will become apparent to them that the RRS is an LR3 with Range Rover face and roof design finish.
So will they still consider consider it a Range Rover? I don't. I like the styling more than the LR3 and I am willing to pay $5k to $8k more than the HSE LR3. I hopethey don't over price it.

BC
01-22-2005, 11:24 AM
I think its important to note that in the UK at least, the top level LR3 (HSE) is more expensive than the midlevel (SE) RRS (which will likely be the base model in the US). Becuase of that, I think for us, you have to look at the price of the HSE LR3 ($49,995) and figure that the price for the RRS SE will be somewhere below or barely ahead of it. I'd guess $50,000 for SE, $55,000 HSE and $65,000. That allows the Range Rover HSE to still be the most expensive model. Also, look at the bump between the Jaguar XJ and XJR. Its only about $10,000 or a little under. So expect the same price hike for the same engine.

grommet

It depends what you mean "over priced." A base X5 4.4i is $52K US. Don't expect the Range Rover Sport to be the bargain in the segment. If it is, I'll be stunned.
Car and Driver's current issues estimates $55K-$65K, too.

The BMW X5 4.4 can do about 6.5sec 0-100 ... same like the supercharged RRS. So at $52k it competes very well with the $65K supercharged RRS.
But all I'm saying is that $55K for the HSE RRS with the base engine which is simirly equipped like an HSE LR3 ($49K) would be a fair price for the smaller but nicer looking RRS... but if they price it at $60K .. then it is over priced.

Its pretty much gonna be identical pricing levels as the X5, so if you look at the diesel and 4.4 units in the BMW X5, then you have a good idea (give or take 2-3K)...
I think thats a pretty fair price considering it does carry the Range Rover name and is just as quick as its rival...

I know that LR is testing SC and NA versions now and as production begins in March, the first run will be the 1200 SC models but immediately afterwards the NA and V6 TD should be available....so, June is a possibility.

LR has been testing the Diesel version alongside the other's as well. One of the diesel sports drove past me a couple of months ago.. So its not a question of that..
I'm not sure what production line arrangements they got, but the 3 engine lines will most likely be put into production at the same time, so i'm pretty sure that the whole range will come out roughly the same time.
Vatican, i've not got the US prices im afraid, only the UK ones. What I guess though is that pricing should be closely in line with BMW X5 prices. So by that i mean:
X5 3.0 diesel price = RRS Diesel Price
X5 4.4 price = RRS 4.4 price
x5 4.8is price = RRS 4.2 Supercharged price
And then there is a slightly higher premium for the "first edition."

The LR3 HSE is already priced at $69,000 .... so I'm afraid the RRS will be considerably more expensive than the X5 in Canda at least. And, if you go by the acceleraion figures, the 3.0 X5 is probably closer to theresults ofthe NA RRS.
Not to mention that the X5 is backed by very low 4% lease rates and is often discounted at the dealer's side by a couple of thousands. So the net result is that leasinga RRS will be much more than leasingan X5.

but the X5 is getting old (2000 design) ...it will be understandable if the RRS costs a bit more.

Vatican
The Montreal LR dealerships will be hostinbg launch events for the RRS in early April. We're scheduled for April 4-5 but this may change.
Pricing is again estimated at 85k for RRS 4.4 and around 100K for the RRS SC - Prices CAD
There will be 20 'First Editions' coming into Canada of which we hope to see 2-3 (based on our RR Westminister sales.
on road date is June 1, 2005, with vehicles at the dealerships before that. My dealer is now guesstimating starting prices of ~$55K US for non-supercharged and ~$65K US for supercharged -- trims and details are obviously unknown. In other words, not much different than we heard earlier. But it's 100% unconfirmed.
They've been asked what they'd like to see in the first production allocation. Basically just color and supercharged vs. non-supercharged. No new details.

$55K ... $5k more than LR3 HSE = 69k canadian = price of LR3 HSE in Canada.
If they add the same deltra to the 69k in canada, then the RRS should start at $69K+$6K = $75k canadian
Skieast (Montreal LR Daler) is estimating $85K in Canada.
Don't see it as anything more than a more luxurious, smaller LR3, they better not charge $16K canadian more for the Upgrade from HSE LR3 to NA SSR HSE.

We've now been told that more info will be released March 4, including directional pricing.
I'll be out of the office next week, but hopefully the price will be competive.
This is more or less what we've been told.
"With all the questions surrounding the launch of '06 Range Rover + Range Rover Sport, and the upcoming retailer launch events, a launch kit is being readied and will contain: pre-sales form, product information, directional pricing, colors and trim. The ETA for the release of the kit is March 4th. "

AM2K i read on another board that you know about some lap times of the RRS on the nuremburg ring.. Do you know what the actual times are? Did they do a group test with the Cayenne, x5 and RRS?

AM2K
03-07-2005, 04:28 AM
i dont know specific time im afraid.. thats just a bit too much info to tell me!
But apparantly the RRS can get round the nurburgring about 30 seconds faster than the X5.
With the RRS its extremely likely that competitor testing with the Cayenne, X5 etc was done. Im sure the magazines will do comparisons soon enough.

The interior on this car is so impressive... as beautiful as the car is, it is not too far away from the Range Rover, and it couldn't have taken too much creativity to massage the RR into a Range Rover Sport... but this interior, probably the best in a rover, and I think i would rather sit in the inside of this car (assuming comfortable seats) than any luxury bimmer or benz.

Usually when this happens you just let it download and the second time you put it on it works, but this time that didn't work. Is there anything I can do?
Edit: BTW Really cool pic!
Source: Autotelegraaf

your Internet connection might be too slow for the setting it is on, lower the quality ot medium or poor and see if it might work. Or it could be a problem with your windows media player
The video is really cool, it looks so good

are you sure you have the latest version of media player installed in your PC? That would do it.

That's what I usually do, I let the Buffer build up and restart the video. The problem is, in this case, when I restart the video after the buffer has built up, the buffer starts building up again so its no use....
and yes I've got the current version of Windows Media Player...

Wow I love this thing I know that it might not be quite on par with handling charactestics with Cayenne or X5, but man I just love its aggressive low-stance and in your face front end. Its got so much class as to where Cayenne screams out "Hey I'm a suburbanite".
Oh and I think it looks amazing in wet black. As a matter of fact if anyone can point me to a black model RRS wallpaper I'd appreciate it.

Finally saw the video on another PC. On slow connection though. I thought it would be a more impressive video, but it's quite OK though. I think it helps clear suspicion on wether or not it is capable enough for the green oval.

Saw the first one in the flesh outside of a dealership yesterday and I must say that I was not too impressed. A lot of the exterior touches just look cheap. I think it might have been the way the parts fit together or the quality of the plastics, or maybe just the smaller size of the thing, but it just didn't seem to too extrodinary. I honestly thought it was a tarted up Grand Cherokee or Discovery until I realized it was surrounded with Defenders and turned around to see I was standing in front of a Landie dealership.

Dont know if anyone else here saw it, but thought i would mention that the Range Sport was featured on Top Gear tonight, here in the UK..
The basic challenge given to the car was a face off with a Challenger Tank.. so it certainly made interesting viewing! But if anyone has doubts about the off-road ability of the car, watch top gear and you'll see how unbelievably good this car is!

They just got a Supercharged, Orange launch edition RRS down at the local Land Rover dealer, and it is H-O-T. Already sold... not that I'm looking to drop $75K on a car at the moment
They had a black HSE there, too... still looked pretty good, but next to that bright orange supercharged model, it was quite anonymous.
I was surprised to see how much smaller the RRS was inside... the front, with its wide center console, looks almost cramped.
