Mercedes Benz has hired you to redesign their main seller, the E class.
The board has not decided whether, the CLS class will continue or will be infact replaced by the redesigned E class. The board has asked the new E to take Mercedes into a new styling direction, but must retain recongizable Mercedes styling cues. You have 2 weeks to present your design, you may work in teams of 2 or 3 people and all submit one design; individual designs may also be submitted.
Deadline is June 9th.
Good luck.
MB Board of Directors.
(this contest is just for fun, Mercedes-benz has no connection to this contest at all)
Rules
-----
-You can use any original photograph you can find
-You can work in groups of 2 or 3 people.
-change as much as possible on the car
-Do what huckfeldt does, be creative and make it realstic
-No wagon design is needed, only the sedan
-Only a front view is required in this competition
-You can't post work in progress pictures anywhere on the board
-No hand drawn submissions only created using photoshop
-Must include the original photo when submitting the design
-deadline June 9th around 3-4pm PST, so my local time

I think I'll enter this as I missed out on the Saab one. I'm on my own though.

Stevenzoz, some would say that a M5 bumper on an E-class is sacrilege! It's ironic that it fits so well....

Well, I am absolutely sick and tired of looking at this chop! So I proclaim it finished :P It has been one of the hardest chops to do for me, even though it may not look like it. I don't know why, it just has been. It is based on an S-Class but every single body panel has been altered in some way, making for drastically altered proportions and detailing, which I think makes the basic S-Class body look much, much better and more svelte and less fat: Perfect for a smaller E-Class body, no? The party piece is of course the front, which features a new take on the traditional E-Class four-headlamps, interpreted in a totally new way, with a what I think is a very clever hood/grille/inner-headlamp configuration. Anyway, without further ado, here we are, the new E-Class:

The original: http://www.allcarwallpapers.co...x1200/
And an animation to see how much I've changed: http://img236.imageshack.us/im...a.gif
Comments, please!

Its looks good, but i'm not gonna lie, those lights next to the grille seem kinda weird to me

The Water Is Poison

are they off of that Holden Torana concept?

knihc2008
06-06-2006, 05:36 PM
They're off the F600 Hygenius, and the lights next to the grille have been pretty much a love/hate situation with all the people I've shown my chop to.

They are quite controversial but I do stand by them as a designer :P Thanks for giving them a second chance!

Based on the assignment, i think you nailed it. I would like to see more of the face from another angle to clearly see what's going on there (not that I expect you to do it or nothing) PLUS the right fender flair is a bit higher than the left BUT I love that direction. Kinda reminds me of the "mini-maybach" design that was floating around.

06-07-2006, 11:30 AM
Thank you GBOY! I will try to post my original sketches up to show you exactly what's going on if I can find them! And as far as the front two wheel arches go, those were truly a pain in the butt to get right, so I know for a fact they didn't end up coming out correctly haha; the car's right (our left) fender flare used to be waaaay higher than the other one but I guess I overcompensated.
Thanks again for the comment!

Here's my entry, after a few days of work on this thing. Most body mods are brushed with the exceptions of the inside of the taillights, the front bumper, and the wheels

whoa. Stevenzoz, your chop is sweet. Very conservative, but really well done. I really like your front end treatment and the wheels look fantastic on it. 9/10
TWIP, your is awesome, but I don't like the radicalness of it. The split lights look a bit quirky, but the rest is pretty cool. Yours is VERY well executed for how much you changed. 9.5/10
TWIP, your chop is certainly awesome, not so sure about those inner lamps tho. They're sorta shaped oddly, no?
ricerammer, anything to say about mine? :)

Yours is very nice. Get rid of the inner headlightd and it looks fantastic. I think if you made the bodykit a bit more pronounced, you'd have an E73 AMG. The car you designed seems fit for a 7.3L Turbo V8 or maybe even a version of the 8.4L V10 the new Vipers will use. Very good work, and great execution. 9.95/10

i like yours, the water is poison, but it would look much better if the lights were straight and not squigly, it just doesnt fit in as a MB.

Like what Honda does with its Accord, the new E-Class will have two different bodystyles; one for US and one for Europe.
US E-Class

Europe E-Class

TC. Yours are excellent. Very cool twist on the idea. I think the US one looks awesome. Was it based on an ML SUV? The sides and the wheels highly evoke the SUV, and this car carries out the theme pretty darned well. However, I have a ONE gripe. It seems as though I can't see the passenger mirror. Other than that it's pretty sweet. Nice job.
The Euro one is flashy in a CLS way.It loks like you took the current E class, and and gave it a redesign and in the process threw in some CLS nad R class elements. I really like the front end on the euro one, and the side is simply stunning. The only change I would make is make a german plate on the euro one, and a CA plate on the american one. Very nice chops as always Theophilus Chin. :)
kjb90-- Very nice evolution of the current E class. The way the greenhouse is, it has a bit of CLS vibe to it, no? The AMG wheels fit PERFECTLY for this car, although they are a tad too big. The front end is pretty sweet, and I like your quad foglight deal. The hood/grill/headlight area is very nice. It's almost CL like. The ground effects/rockers look good on it, too. Very nice chop bro, I can't wait to see more.
